| When Ira mailed this postcard to a friend in Brooklyn in 1908, Hope Mills already was part of an earlier generation. This mill opened c1808 after a fire had destroyed Nathan Benjamin's 1800 papermaking mill. The mill was sold to Abner and Russell Austin in 1813 and the Austin family continued the manufacture of paper until the late 1880's. |
