The
sea level terminus of the Otis was just east of the Bogart Road
Bridge over the right of way, a mile and a quarter north of Palenville
village. Original built on trestle work as detailed in the Otis Engineering
articles, the line was rebuilt on fills in 1904 to reduce maintenance
costs for the lengthy trestlework. More importantly, the reconstruction
work at the base of the mountain allowed for the construction of Otis
Junction, permitting the Otis Elevating to receive narrow gauge interchange
from the Catskill Mountain Railway and transport them to other Mountain
Top destinations via the Catskill & Tannersville.
